=The Road of Excess Leads to the Palace of Wisdom=
Rough Untitled Busboy Blues Reset Synopsis

I’ve written enough of the new BB comic script to hash out a long-style synopsis.  Names and planets etc are still subject to change, but a lot of what’s here is the official groundwork:

=================

In the heart of the Yarnestra’la System lies Sarthreim, a planet untouched for three hundred cycles of the Post Communion Era. Its people, A motley assortment of humans and otherworldly settlers, live in harmony with the planet, having little contact with other worlds save for freelance trade.  Divided into clans, their main course of survival is hunting and gathering.  But Sarthreim’s prime location threatens to end their peaceful existence as The Planetary Bureaucracy claims the planet for expansion of several primary intergalactic industries.

While a vast city is constructed, the TPB officially relocates those Sarthremians unwilling to cooperate with the expansion agenda to communes on the planet’s moon, Mon Luvai.  Overruled by the Sarthremians’ sister clan, the barbarous gangsters known as the Tolv’aqri, the moon becomes a crucial asset in the birth of the Separatist Coalition.

Meanwhile on the Idyl Wind, a luxury recreation space cruiser owned by The Beddau Estate, the boorish Tolv’aqri deserter, Zachary Von Dyetrich, makes a living as the Chief Pilot.  But his flying days are about to end when his actions go too far and he’s demoted to working in one of the ship’s restaurants for the no-nonsense manager, David Asato-Mendes.  Trying to get along with David (and a serious reduction of entitlement) is the least of his problems, though.  Because the Idyl Wind is on a course straight to Sarthreim, and Zachary is about to have a head-on collision with his past.  One he thought he’d killed off ten cycles ago.

==========

Coming up with the language/dialect that the Tolv’aqri speak is a nightmare.  I have pages of alphabetical parallels between German, Romanian, Hungarian, and Czech, and the exact arrangements and pieces of each that make up the Tolv language.  Argh, what did I get myself into?

I welcome criticism.

Infinity Minus Five: I created VonDye on May 20th, 2007, but today marks more than just five years since the conception of a character.  It’s terribly dorky and/or sappy sounding, but I’ve met some great people, renewed my obsession with art and comics, and stuck with and had faith in my ideas longer than my attention span typically permits, all because of some RPG.  So here’s to five more years, though I hope I’d have had the guts to kill the damned bastard off by then.
Almost 20 hours with this piece, because I got obsessed and retarded about every little detail.  It was also my first entirely digital painting, so I had no clue what I was doing, but I think it may be one of my favorite pieces to date.  Hope to do more full digital compositions in the future.

Completed some Busboy hardlines today.  This was the page I was most pleased with. And not cos I’m some pervy type, either. Though things are always better when they’re pervy…anyway, all the pages I did need touching up, but I’m done as far as the drawing part goes for them.
Even though I totally forgot Von’s smokes pocket. Dammit!

I think one more page for this back story subplot, then I can finish the opium den storyline, and that’ll put me close to the end of chapter 3 with the few stray pages that’ll tie up the subplot and lead into chapter 4.
One thing I’ve noticed is sketch drafts are coming out cleaner because I’m making less mistakes. A page like this was a breeze (though, technically, it is a short page with little posing demand), and it shouldn’t be too hard fixing some wonkiness, putting the hardline down, and shading stuff.

Enough touching up the colors, I’m calling it. Busboy Blues Chapter 3: Smuggler’s Gambit page 1 is finished.
