Now I kno why everyone in NY thinks I speak funny too..because a lot of these..I dont say.

What’s funny is how much my speech has changed, through little things like this, to fit in here in California vs where I grew up in Western NY.

I still say ‘cray-ahn’ & water fountain (instead of drinking fountain). Shoes for athletics are still ‘sneakers’ to me instead of ‘tennis shoes’

But:

I now say soda instead of pop (this one took a while to change)

I say ‘pee-Kahn’ instead of ‘Pee-can’

And they are definitely round-abouts, not traffic circles.

Ruby Rhod is one of my favorite characters in sci-fi ever because he is Luc Besson’s vision of the hetero sex symbol of the future: a flamboyant, emotionally labile man who wears skin-tight leopard print or decks himself in roses, a man who accessorizes with big jewelry and dabbles in cosmetics. And the ladies love him. Everything about him screams “gay” according to our stereotypes, but he’s portrayed as a 100% straight sexual dynamo.

Besson is one of the few directors I’ve seen who actually recognizes that our ideas of sexuality and gender performance might have changed drastically in the future.

I also really love that everything about him screams phallic symbol. The hair. The name. The mic. All of it.

Everyone who had a part in the creation of Ruby Rhod nailed it.

After vote allowing gay kids to become Boy Scouts, some families call it quits

The father of a Cub Scout sat his son on his lap late last week and told him news that tore up both their hearts: The family was leaving the Boy Scouts.

Goodbye and good riddance. The boy scouts is no place for those who discriminate.

It’s really sad that kids who love Scouting are having that taken away from them because their parents are bigots. And those bigot parents will likely make their kids hate on “the gays” because they can’t bring themselves to admit that it’s their bigotry that’s taking something their kids love away from them.

“I would rather my son learned to hate and discriminate than have a good time and learn to get along with people from all walks of life.”

I seriously hope none of these kids that are getting pulled out turn out to be gay, because I wouldn’t wish living in that kind of environment on the poor things. Alas, statistically some of them probably are. I hope they hang in there, grow up to be awesome people, and are eventually able to educate their bigoted relatives that there’s nothing wrong with being gay.
